Beware: Robbers pose as beggars
Good Samaritan learns a hard lesson after being fooled by begging suspects.
A local resident and father of five would like to warn his neighbours and the community after a handful of intruders raided his home last weekend.
Mmothi Molefe, who lives in Mindalore, returned from church last Sunday, 17 July, to find his 19-year-old son in a state and his house robbed.
“My son was at home watching TV when the first person entered the yard and knocked on the front door, asking for old clothes.” The youngster opened the door, and another intruder appeared, asking for water. A third intruder then appeared, and followed the young man into the house as he went to fetch some clothes.
One of the intruders grabbed the victim around the neck and held him in a choke-hold while the other suspects started ransacking the house.
According to Molefe, “There were about five people raiding my house.”
The suspects then fled in a black vehicle with a pair of shoes, a leather jacket, a TV and decoder, and R500 cash.
“My son was so traumatised by the incident that he did not even think of taking down the registration number of the getaway car.”
The police were then called. Molefe alleges they told him his son would be implicated in the crime, because he unwittingly opened the door for the suspects in his attempt be a good Samaritan.
