[PICS] Cars of Krugersdorp: 1946 Ford half-ton truck

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Maybe…

This week’s Golden Oldie in the Cars of Krugersdorp series is a 1946 Ford half-ton truck, which belongs to Graham Diss.

Graham bought the truck about a year ago in a very poor state, and has since rebuilt it.

The vehicle is no longer a factory original, as it is now powered by a more modern, more powerful Chevrolet 5,7 litre engine.

The truck has completed the KwaZulu-Natal Meander and is both an absolute beauty and a fun vehicle to drive in, although it still handles like an old truck according to Graham.

Some interesting facts:

• It originally had a three-speed manual gearshift, but now has an automatic gearbox following it’s restoration.

• The truck was the first Ford truck model off the assembly line following the end of World War II in 1945.

• Parts from the 1942 truck were used, which explains the similarities between the two models.
