Domestic helps herself to employer’s property

A domestic worker was arrested in connection with a robbery at her employer’s house in Azaadville on Sunday, 24 July.

This comes after she had lied to police about how the robbery played out. After the robbery had been reported, she told police that two armed men forced her to open the door by threatening her with a gun. Two tablets, clothing, two pairs of shoes, drilling and grinder machines, five wristwatches and other jewellery were stolen during the robbery.

She also claimed that her cellphone was stolen. However, she could not fool police. They found her ‘stolen’ cellphone on her bed.

The 21-year-old employee was arrested when it was discovered that she has known the robbers all along. Her lover was one of the two men who robbed the house. He was traced to Klerksdorp in North West, found in possession of a pair of shoes and a tablet that were stolen during the robbery and was subsequently arrested. The 24-year-old suspect later pointed out his accomplice who was also arrested.

A case docket of house robbery was opened and the two men and woman were detained at the Kagiso Police Station. The domestic worker has an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice against her.

The trio appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody.
