Two men were arrested by Hekpoort Police last week for being in possession of suspected stolen property.
The suspects, aged 28 and 43, were arrested for possession of allegedly stolen property on 20 July at approximately 3:30am, on the R563 in Hekpoort.
“The arresting officers were patrolling the R563 when they came across two suspicious-looking males walking along the road. One was carrying a schoolbag,” Hekpoort Police spokesperson, Constable Gloria Maswanganye explained.
The officers conducted a routine search and found a laptop, takkies and a hat inside the bag.
“When the suspects were questioned about the ownership of these items, and how they came into possession of them, they failed to give a valid explanation, and were arrested.”
Constable Maluleke contacted a farm owner in the area whose house had been broken into the previous night, and asked if he could possibly come in and identify the stolen goods. The laptop was subsequently positively identified by the farm owner.
The suspects were charged with possession of stolen property and are expected to appear in court in the duration of this week.
