Pupils put a smile on some elderly’s dial
The project is a result of a long-standing partnership between Mogale City Local Municipality and the Azaadville community
Christmas came early for the senior citizens of Kagiso when they received blankets and food parcels from pupils of Azaadville Muslim School.
The pupils donated dozens of blankets to senior citizens of Ward 7, through the Operation Winter Warm project. The event took place at Mandisa Shiceka Secondary school.
The coordinator of the project, Shabier Dabhelia, said, “We have identified Ward 7 as one of the needy areas in Kagiso. The pupils from the school contributed towards charities throughout the year, and this has culminated in purchasing blankets and food parcels, which included maize meal, cocking oil, flour, beans and fruit packets for the aged in our zonal area.
“We were invited by ward councillor Mandisa Mdzeke and ward candidate Doreen David to come and provide services to the destitute, aged and needy people in this community. We appreciate the opportunity to be here and give to deserving people.”
Shabier, who is also a Ward 3 candidate in Azaadville, said this project is ongoing, and they are looking forward to servicing other areas around Mogale City.
Mandisa, who was accompanied by members of her ward committee, was very happy and said the project is a result of a long-standing partnership between Mogale City Local Municipality and the Azaadville community.
“I’m very much thankful for the aged in our area to be the beneficiary of this noble project. I hope they will cherish the gifts – more so in this cold season. This donation comes when most of our people need blankets to keep the chilly weather at bay.
“We wish for the pupils to continue doing this in other areas and assist communities in their time of need. As a municipality we wish to maintain this partnership with the Azaadville community, and wish them well in their work. May God bless them,” Mandisa said.
A local businesswoman, Mmaphefo Nche, provided the aged with hot soup and bread on the cold day.
