‘Thank you, kind stranger’

One random act of kindness has made a huge difference for this family.

When Steve and Mary Smith* were blessed with a child 53 years ago, they had no idea that their lives would change dramatically.

Mary gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. After attending a special school for five years, the family was informed that they should consider institutionalising their son. They decided against it and took it upon themselves to look after him.

Both Steve and Mary have reached the advanced age of 80, but they still look after their son. Every morning, they get him out of bed, dress him and feed him, as well as doing all the other day-to-day tasks that need to be done for him.

As you can imagine, this can be quite a daunting task.

Thankfully, a good Samaritan who owns a nearby petrol station has decided to step in and help the family. Every morning and every evening, he sends a petrol attendant to assist the family in getting their son in and out of bed.

This has greatly helped the family, and they wish to thank the petrol station owner for his selflessness, and for making time for other people in the community.

*Not their real names. The family does not want to have their real identities published.
