Firefighters inspire the next generation

The children left the fire station inspired after an interactive visit that brought firefighting work to life.

According to Mogale Fire and Rescue acting regional commander, Piet Legodi, two preschools came to the fire station to experience what it is like to be a firefighter.

“It is part of our public awareness strategy to have schools come and visit us,” he said.

He said the highlight was the children interacting with the firefighters.

Children do not usually speak to strangers, but the interaction they had during this day was worth a million words,” he added.

The fire department usually has two to three schools visiting during the week, and Legodi said it is always priceless.

“Part of it helps with child development, and the earlier they are exposed to things like this, the more they can see the possibilities in their future,” he concluded.
