High school musical a hit
Krugersdorp High School took to the stage in the adaptation of the television series Mrs Brown’s Boys.
Krugersdorp High School‘s (KHS) seniors took to the Raca Festival stage with their adaptation of the television series Mrs Brown’s Boys – the Musical, for which they received a Diamond award.
The show ran from 15–19 August, and was directed by Tiekie Jansen van Rensburg who also designed the costumes and coordinated the props. She was supported by fellow teacher and past pupil Verena Costopoulos, who did the musical direction.
Carla Boshoff did the art work with one of the KHS pupils, Monique Rovito. The production was choreographed by some extremely gifted pupils – Gary Botha (Grade 12), and Lonwabo Njenga and Monoshe Papo (Grade 11).
The cast consisted of 35 boys and girls from Grades 10 to 12. The hilarious role of Mrs Brown was played by Grade 12 pupil and head boy Robert Laurent, who had the audience in stitches as he nailed the Irish accent and portrayed the role perfectly with his wit. The character of Mrs Brown was supported brilliantly by Dermot, played by Grade 12 pupil Jared Liebenberg who wowed the audiences with his incredible voice. Young, talented Ashley Gozzo and Nicole Ferriera once again showcased their phenomenal talent on stage.
Eryn Mulhearn shared her wonderful talents by singing and playing the violin; and Nicole Holdsworth and Boitumelo Matlou impressed audiences with their lovely voices. The fantastic dancing and acting by Gregory Fok and Juan-Miguel De Freitas who are also KHS’s deputy head boys, as well as Ariann Hamilton, were enormously entertaining.
Owing to the Diamond award Mrs Brown’s Boys – the Musical has achieved at the festival, they qualified to perform at the Nationals.
