A Mozambican national has been arrested after threatening to kill a couple for a R40 debt.
On Friday, 9 September, the 44-year-old suspect arrived at the complainant’s house and aggressively demanded the R40 that was owed to him by the complainant and her boyfriend.
When the couple provided reasons for being unable to pay back the money, the suspect pulled out a firearm and threatened to kill them.
It was only when the couple’s landlord intervened in the situation that calm was restored and the suspect left. The couple reported the matter to the police and he was arrested on the same day. He is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon, facing charges of pointing a firearm and common assault.
Kagiso Police’s spokesperson, Solomon Sibiya, urged the public to report any illegal firearms to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 immediately, in order to save lives.
