Officers say no to bribes
Police members are applauded for upholding the law during a recent 'stop and search' operation.
Tarlton police officers recently showed their loyalty to their profession when they allegedly arrested a man who offered them a bribe.
The police held a ‘stop and search’ operation at the intersection of the R24 and N14 in Tarlton on Friday, 16 September. They allegedly stopped a Toyota Corolla and asked one of the occupants for permission to search the vehicle. It is alleged that a 30-year-old occupant suddenly became rude and aggressive. He allegedly hindered officers in the performance of their duties, and they took him into custody.
One of the occupants of the same vehicle approached the police officer who arrested the 30-year-old and offered him money to release the man. Police officers then arrested the second man for bribery.
They are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
Constable Lucky Matome, the Tarlton Police spokesperson, said the fines or sentences for crimes of bribery differ according to circumstances.
Captain Phaahla, the acting Tarlton Police station commander, applauded the officers for upholding the law.
