Schools celebrate Heritage Week
Krugersdorp and Randfontein schools have been celebrating their heritage this past week.
Krugersdorp Town School has been hosting a Heritage Week Arts and Culture Festival that allows pupils from the various schools to showcase their heritage in a friendly competition.
The competition started on 19 September, and reaches its conclusion on 23 September. The pupils used this time to showcase their heritage and culture through poetry and dance.
Deputy-principal Freddie Welkom was the driving force behind the festival. His vision is to have schools on the West Rand meet and develop and appreciate the cultural diversity of the children.
“Our mission is to showcase the heritage and diversity of the arts and culture in our region in order to have a better understanding and respect for others. We aim to unite and create friendships, peace and harmony among each other,” he said.
