Eight arrested for fraud
Eight suspects took conspiracy to a new level – and were arrested for fraud.
Eight people from Kagiso, Swaneville, Randfontein and Tshepisong West, who conspired themselves all the way into a jail cell, were arrested on Saturday, 17 September.
Police arrested the suspects because they appeared to be employed by a local filling station at the same time as they worked at a wholesale butchery.
The owner of the butchery said that he noticed his monthly accounts increasing dramatically and became suspicious. He contacted his business partners and together they launched an internal investigation. Their investigation revealed that some of the employees at the filling station were colluding with some of the staff at the wholesale butchery, faking employment records, and defrauding their employers of large amounts of cash.
The suspects, ranging in age from 25 to 62, were arrested on charges of fraud after police launched their own investigation.
