Fit police officers chase down suspect
Police later discovered two firearms wrapped in a leather jacket inside the bag that was confiscated from the suspect.
Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition during routine control check points at the R24 and Newthorndale intersection on Friday, 30 September.
Under the command of Captain Mlambo of the Hekpoort Police, officers stopped a white Volvo carrying three occupants.
Constable Walter Motshwane says the officers were searching the vehicle when one of the suspects opened the left back door of the vehicle, grabbed a bag and ran into the veld.
“Police officers chased the suspect and he was soon apprehended,” Constable Motshwane said.
Police later discovered two firearms wrapped in a leather jacket inside the bag that was confiscated from the suspect.
Not only were the firearms unlicensed – the police found ammunition concealed with them as well.
The two suspects were charged with possession of illegal and unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They will appear in court soon.
