The Krugersdorp Police have launched a manhunt for six suspects after they allegedly forced a taxi driver to transport them to Soweto and then hijacked his vehicle.

The complainant, a 34-year-old taxi driver, said he parked his white Toyota Quantum and was approached by two men.

It is alleged the two men boarded the taxi at the corner of Market and Pretoria Streets in Krugersdorp on Saturday at approximately 8.45am, and pulled out a firearm.

They allegedly held the driver at gunpoint and forced him to transport them to Soweto. Upon arrival in Soweto, four more suspects joined the initial two. They then left the scene, in the complainant’s taxi, leaving him behind. He was later found, unharmed.

Business owners in the area in which the complainant was approached by the suspects said they were not aware of the situation until the News approached them for comment.

Later the business owners said no hijackings had been reported to their stores.

“We have excessive security measures in place such as round-the-clock guards, patrollers and monitored security cameras,” one business owner claimed.

“Our customers’ safety is our top priority because they are the mothers and fathers of families.”

The Krugersdorp Police are appealing to the community to help locate the vehicle and the suspects. The vehicle’s registration number is FHT 466 MP. The contact number for the Krugersdorp Police is 011 9521104/1151.
