Man murdered in front of funeral parlour

A man was fatally shot in his vehicle in front of a funeral parlour in Rissik Street, Krugersdorp at about noon today.

Eye-witnesses say the man parked his vehicle in front of the parlour and remained seated in the driver’s seat for a long period of time.

It is alleged that another vehicle, believed to be either a white Volkswagen Polo or Volkswagen GTI parked next to the man’s vehicle. Two suspects jumped out of the second vehicle and approached the victim, who was still seated in his vehicle. One suspect allegedly ran to the passenger side and opened the door. The other suspect held the victim at gunpoint. One of the eye-witnesses said they heard a gunshot and then saw the two suspects get back into the Volkswagen and drive off, allegedly drove towards Commissioner Street.

Members of the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF) arrived on the scene shortly after being contacted.

CPF members barricaded the scene with tape to keep passersby from entering and contaminating evidence.

Krugersdorp Police officers arrived shortly after the CPF. They immediately started to interview the eye-witnesses – a car guard and a passerby – who allegedly witnessed the crime being committed.

The forensic investigator arrived on scene and started collecting evidence. A substantial amount of cash was found in the victim’s trouser pockets. The investigator also lifted fingerprints from the vehicle. The vehicle’s boot was also searched and more evidence was found.

A man, who is believed to be a family member of the victim, identified the body on the scene. The body was later taken to a morgue.

One of the officers on scene thanked the CPF for their quick reaction in preserving the scene.

Krugersdorp police have not yet commented on the crime and all of the information provided was witnessed by the News’s journalist.
