JDK ends debating season on a high
Five JDK debaters met the strict provincial selection criteria, making it to the provincial trialists list.
The Jan de Klerk (JDK) High School Debating Club never dreamt of a record-breaking season this year.
For the first time in the history of the school, both juniors and seniors qualified for the prestigious SACEE Championships.
Both broke in the Gauteng Provincial Plate Break. This means they had broken through a threshold, above which they passed into the outrounds – semi-finals, finals and so forth. The Break Rounds took place on 25 September at Redhill School in Sandton. The Junior Team emerged as the provincial runners-up in the Junior division.
Three junior debaters, Joey Motholo, Miracle Shingange and Thandekile Ndlovu ranked first, second and fourth respectively in the Provincial Top 10 Best Speakers category.
Two seniors, Khanyisile Molefe and Mpho Patane, ranked fifth and seventh respectively. Five JDK debaters met the strict provincial selection criteria, making it to the provincial trialists list.
