Wanted Thembisa cop killer committed crimes in the West Rand
The man who escaped from a court in Thembisa is also on the run for a crime he committed in Kagiso.
An awaiting trial prisoner who has been making news headlines for killing a cop, is also wanted for a crime he committed in Kagiso.
Joshua Bomba Shongwane shot and killed a police officer at the Thembisa Magistrates’ Court and escaped from the same court’s holding cells on Wednesday, 12 October. Shongwane was in the court’s holding cells when he held up three police officers with a firearm, took the cell keys and locked them in an office inside the cells. It is then that he allegedly went down the stairs and fatally shot a police captain before escaping.
The News has since discovered that he is also wanted for a crime he committed in Kagiso in August 2012.
“Shongwane held up a vehicle that was delivering cigarettes at a shop in Swanieville, Kagiso. He manhandled the victim and stole his cellphone as well as the delivery vehicle. He took off with another suspect while the victim was tied up inside the car. The victim managed to break free by kicking open the door while Shongwane was driving,” Kagiso police station spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Solomon Sibiya told the News.
According to Sibiya, when Shongwane is apprehended, he will also be charged and tried for this armed robbery.
Shongwane is considered highly dangerous and police are asking anyone who sees him to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or the nearest police station, and are offering a reward for information on his whereabouts.
“The province has been robbed of a selfless and dedicated member of the force.
I am totally disturbed by the brazen attack and disregard these callous criminals have for our police officers I appeal to the criminal justice system to apprehend the suspect and ensure that he receives the harshest sentence. On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial government, I would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the captain’s family, friends and fellow SAPS members,” said the MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane.
