Maragons’ learners pay it forward

As part of a Life Orientation project, Maragon's Grade 9 learners visited Mug and Tree for a day of giving and playing.

Maragon Private Schools’ Grade 9 learners created some smiling faces when they collected donations and spent the day at the Mug and Tree Community Centre in Krugersdorp West on Tuesday, 8 November.

As part of a Life Orientation project that dealt with volunteerism, learners took it upon themselves to collect food, books and old clothing and donate it to Mug and Tree. After the drop-off, they were given the opportunity to play and colour pictures with the children who benefitted from their kindness, and then the learners helped serve them lunch.

“It truly was a humbling experience as the learners realised that not everyone has a warm bed and a full tummy every day.

We would like to thank the parents and staff who contributed and enabled us to give back to the community. We will return next year,” said Maragon educator, Keegan Hughes.

Keegan said that Mug and Tree has an after-school program and nursery that feeds almost 300 people daily in Krugersdorp.
