Hartebeesfontein lodge robbed

Police are appealing to the community to help them find the suspects.

The Hekpoort Police are appealing to the community to help them find the suspects who broke into a private lodge at Hartebeesfontein.

The complainant apparently locked the lodge on Wednesday, 9 November before leaving, but when he returned the following day he found the fridge open. He investigated further and realised that a window and the burglar-proofing had been tampered with and liquor worth thousands of rand was missing. A case of business burglary was opened on Monday, 14 November.

The Hekpoort Police station commander, Captain Zwane, offered the following advice to residents:

Please ensure that gates are locked at all times. Security gates with sturdy locks in front of each outer door, and burglar-proofing on all windows are recommended. An alarm system, preferably connected to an armed response company, can act as an effective deterrent.

Security lights on the outside of the house improve the physical protection of a house, farm or small holding.

If you leave your residence, inform your family or neighbours of your intended destination, the time you expect to return and the route you will be driving, especially if you reside in a rural area.

Ensure that tools such as axes, spades, picks or ladders that can be used in an attack are locked away when they are not in use.

Report suspicious behaviour and information to your local police station.

Do not employ casual workers without a reference. Keep copies of all your employees’ IDs.

Police are urging the community to come forward with information about this crime. The Hekpoort Police Station can be reached on 014 576 910/8 and 071 675 7077/8/9.
