N14 roadworks headache continues next year
Stage 2 of the project kicks off between March and April next year.
In April, the News reported on the delays motorists have experienced during the roadworks on the N14 highway.
These delays have been between Diepsloot and the Hendrik Potgieter Road intersection and have caused major traffic delays and some accidents in the past year.
The News spoke to the Project Manager who is responsible for the upgrade.
“We are busy cleaning up the road in order for it to be open over the festive season,” said Cindy Mkize.
She confirmed to the News that from 9 December and throughout the holiday season, there will be no roadworks as they are busy completing Stage 1 of the project and making the road safer for holiday traffic.
The motorists’ headaches are unfortunately not entirely over, as Stage 2 of the project kicks off between March and April next year. When this stage will come to a conclusion is still unknown.
The construction work has caused major delays for 18 months now and motorists are getting frustrated. The News spoke with a motorist who uses the N14 every day. She confirmed that the construction work means that it takes her an hour an a half to make a 25km trip.
“The construction work is driving me crazy,” said Chantelle Breytenbach, “I’m stuck for almost three hours a day in traffic.”
The reconstruction was expected to be completed by October this year when the project duration reached its 18-month mark. Another expected completion date has not been set yet.
