Rotary Club celebrates their friends

'We feel like we do something for the community.'

Making a difference in the community is what this club strives for.

The Krugersdorp Rotary Club was established in 1940 and is part of an international non-profit organisation of which the purpose is to provide humanitarian services and advance goodwill and peace around the world.

Businesses and professional leaders are the driving force behind these clubs.

On 22 November the Krugersdorp club paid tribute to people and organisations who serve the community of Krugersdorp. The club also handed over donations from the West Rand Trust to various organisation. Dave Jankelowitz, a former president and a local dentist, made a toast on Rotary International and the Anns (women) of the club.

“We feel we do something for the community,” Dave said.

The members give to and help organisations and people whom they feel are in need. The club consist of over 1,4 million members world wide and is the biggest welfare organisation in the world. Members said they receive money from Bill Gates every year to help them make a difference.

According to Rotarian Dennis Pretorius, the purpose of the event was to celebrate Friends of Rotary and to say thank you for going beyond the call of duty.

These organisations were represented at the event:

• Cradle of Hope.

• Red Cross SA

• Salvation Army

• Lighthouse for Disabled Children

• Gateway

• Polokego

• Gideons

• Child and Family Welfare

• NG Welsyn

• Ondersteuningsraad

• Christmas Tree Fund

These organisations each received donations from the Rotary Club to hyelp meet their needs. The club aims to keep on making a difference in the community.
