Being a truly rich person does not necessarily mean you have lots of money. Christmas is also not a time for showing off how much money you have, but to rather come together as a family to celebrate what is really important in life.

Here’s how you can replace an expensive gift with something more meaningful:

• Invite your family and friends for a nice get-together and share what you are most grateful for

• Do a family project together, like cleaning the house

• Save ahead for a well-deserved holiday

• Help a friend in need; giving is so much better than receiving

• Make your own gifts

• Instead of buying gifts, put all your money together and donate it to an orphanage

• Spend Christmas Day at an animal shelter and instead of buying Christmas gifts for everyone, put the money to good use by adopting a furry friend for your family
