Modern medicine and tools have made the impossible possible.

Contemporary culture has in recent years shocked many people, as new and dangerous body modification trends have started to take hold in society.

Modern medicine and tools have made the impossible possible as dangerous procedures are now performed without the risks they used to present.

Tongue bifurcation is a procedure that allows people to have their tongues split in half, making them appear snake-like. The tongue is cut lengthwise from the tip as far back as you want. Although this might not have any benefits, tongue splitting might enable one to do some cool party tricks like licking your bottom and top lip at the same time. Plastic surgeons, body modification specialists and oral surgeons are all able to perform this procedure and the tongue is simply cut with a scalpel or a laser.

Tongue splits do have the ability to grow back together. Once split and properly healed, the person gains control of both sides individually. This is a very popular trend in modern culture.

Metal, plastic, Teflon, silicone and even stainless steel objects can be placed underneath the skin, resulting in a 3D effect. This body modification is the most dangerous as it is considered more or less the same as plastic surgery and the chance of infection after the procedure is greater. Popular shapes people place underneath their skin are stars, skulls, hearts and geometric shapes.

Some people colour the cornea of their eye to reduce the visual appearance of the eye damaging it. Others receive treatment for optical purposes, including decreasing circumstantial glare within the iris. This is an irreversible modification.
