5 arrested as West Rand Flying Squad recovers drugs and stolen vehicle
Police operations across Westonaria, Mohlakeng and Randfontein yield major successes, including the seizure of illicit gold mining equipment.
Police officers from the West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) made multiple arrests and recorded several operational successes across the region between September 10 and 13.
On September 10, shortly after noon, officers arrested a man found in possession of drugs in Westonaria. According to the WRFS spokesperson, Karen du Plessis, he was found with 16g of crystal meth worth about R4 816.
Later that night, police spotted a silver Kia Cerato with four occupants.
Police stopped the vehicle in Mohlakeng, where four men were arrested for the unlawful possession of gold, and seized the car. Officers also confiscated mining equipment, including hammers and chisels.
Lastly, on the morning of September 13, the squad acted on information and recovered an abandoned hijacked vehicle in Randfontein.
