Man miraculously walks away from crumpled bakkie

It is imperative that motorists in Johannesburg take care when travelling on wet roads, especially during heavy rains.

On Saturday, 7 January, the driver of a bakkie lost control of his vehicle on the N14 South, near Diepsloot after hitting a large puddle of water.

The vehicle slid on the surface of the water, and became airborne, spinning across the highway. It finally came to a standstill when it collided with one of the pillars of a bridge.

Although the vehicle was irreparably damaged, with the driver’s and front passenger door squashed together by the impact with the pillar, the driver remarkably sustained only minor injuries.

He was the only occupant of the vehicle, and was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.

Quick Response Service (QRS) said in their statement that it is imperative that motorists in Johannesburg take care when travelling on wet roads, especially during heavy rains.

“High speed in wet weather can cause serious collisions,” said Braden Stephenson, the spokesperson for QRS.
