140 dogs waiting to be adopted

'We are determined to find suitable homes for every one of them, no matter how long it takes.'

One hundred and forty dogs are looking for their fur-ever homes.

The 9th Day Animal Shelter is a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing centre that is being run by Charmaine Booysen, a Krugersdorp resident.

Early in December last year, the News published an article about the shelter that urgently needs new kennels or new premises as they needed to be out of their current premises by the end of 2016. The owner however had a gracious heart and gave them extension for another few months.

“This is still not the perfect solution for us as we would like to buy our own premises,” said owner Charmaine.

The shelter will however undertake some maintenance and renovation work over the next six weeks to make their dogs’ temporary home as pleasant and safe as possible.

According to Charmaine the kennels may be a bit chaotic to visit during this time, but appointments can be made to visit the dogs. The renovations will include a parking bay and some upgrades will be done on the cages. They also would like to make some running space available for the dogs in order for them to be out playing for longer during the day.

“Many of our dogs would not stand a chance out there in the big, bad world, but we are determined to find suitable homes for every one of them, no matter how long it takes,” said Charmaine.

The shelter also started a R20 challenge where they ask their followers to each contribute R20 to help them with their renovations.
