Kagiso suspects assault victims with hammer

The assault allegedly lasted throughout the night, until the next morning.

Six suspects, aged between 20 and 27, were arrested after they kidnapped and assaulted a man in Soul City near Kagiso, two days prior to their arrest.

It is alleged the complainant and the victim were neighbours. The complainant claimed that the victim was visiting him on Thursday, 17 January. After their visit, the complainant walked the victim to his gate and watched as he went into his house.

While the complainant was asleep, he heard his neighbour shouting his name. The complainant went outside and noticed seven people, whom he knew, approaching his gate.

The suspects accused the complainant and the victim of breaking into and stealing from their shack.

One of the suspects claimed he saw the victim selling some of his stolen property. The suspects then kidnapped both the complainant and the victim, locked them in their shack and assaulted them with a hammer and chisel. The assault allegedly lasted throughout the night, until the next morning.

One of the suspects pointed a firearm at them and threatened to kill them.

Once released, the complainant went to the police station and filed a complaint against the suspects.

Kagiso Police launched a manhunt and arrested six of the seven suspects.

The suspects are facing charges of kidnapping, assault with aggravated circumstances and pointing of a firearm. They are expected to appear in court soon.
