Animal shelter in desperate need
Members of the public are also urged to adopt a dog or a cat.
A local animal shelter urgently needs your help.
After the Krugersdorp SPCA had closed down in March 2016, owner of the 9th Day Animal Shelter, Charmaine Booysens, took the load onto her own shoulders to assist animals in need. Members of the public were urged to take animals to the Roodepoort SPCA as well as the shelter.
The shelter, which is a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing centre, has 140 dogs in its care, which means that 140 dogs need to be fed on a daily basis. It costs the shelter R1 000 a day, amounting to R30 000 a month to feed the dogs.
The shelter is in desperate need of food. It will have to close its doors if they do not get food or donations from the public. The shelter recently started a R20 challenge, asking their followers and supporters to each contribute R20 for food and other necessities.
Members of the public are also urged to adopt a dog or a cat. The adoption fee is R700, which includes sterilisation, vaccination and micro-chipping. If you would like to contribute or want to help, contact Charmaine via email to charmaine@the9thday.co.za or info@the9thday.co.za, and consider participating in the R20 challenge. Food donations can be delivered at 51 Van Wyk Street, Krugersdorp West. Krugersdorp Sector 5 CPF can be contacted on 072 782 9354 to collect food donations.
