Hoërskool Monument will be sending 11 of their finest tennis players to Nelspruit, to play in the NHS Groot 5 tennis tournament this coming weekend.
The tournament will take place at Hoërskool Nelspruit and the tennis players will be competing against renowned tennis schools such as Hoërskool Waterkloof, Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies), Hoërskool Ermelo and Hoërskool Boland.
The 11 pupils who will be representing Monument Hoërskool are Michelle Janse van Rensburg, Alexia Maritz, Anje Oosthuizen, Vian Ferreira, Eduard Botha, Ruard Botha, Kael Scanes, Julian Prins, Abner Dickson, Aszner Louw and Chante de Lange.
Leon du Toit, their coach, wishes them the best of luck for the tournament and has high hopes that his pupils will make their school proud.
He used a quote by Andre Agassi, a professional tennis player and former world Number 1 tennis player, to describe his teams’ approach to and love for tennis, “Tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love — the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature”.
“We know that the players are a force to be reckoned with,” Leon said, “because the hours they spent practicing, the days they spent preparing and the year that has taught them the lessons of life will all come into play while they compete against the best there is, and allow them to come home, knowing they have given it their all.”
