Valentine’s Day – a popular day to make some vows

Here are some of the best stories about Krugersdorpers who got married on Valentine's Day.

The News recently ran a survey on Facebook to determine if there were any Krugersdorpers who celebrated their wedding anniversary on 14 February, and the number of replies was astounding. Turns out Valentine’s Day is actually a popular day to make some vows.

More than 20 Krugersdorp couples replied to the survey. Here are some of the best stories about Krugersdorper’s who got married on Valentine’s Day:

Happy couple Samantha and Wynand du Plessis-Horn got married on 14 February after being together for two years. The couple met on a BBM group to which they both belonged in 2011. They started chatting and from the moment they exchanged messages, they had incredible chemistry.

“I thought he was hilarious and we never had a dull moment together,” Samantha said.

They got engaged on Valentine’s Day, 2014 and got married exactly a year after their engagement. “I wasn’t that cliché bride who was late for her own wedding, but my mother-in-law-to-be was late and I had to hide in the car until she arrived, wedding dress and all.”

This year the Du Plessis-Horns will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary and both agree that they are still as in love as the first day. “Neither of us want to spend a single day without each other. Wynand thinks he wears the pants in the relationship. In his dreams.”

Lizanne Jordaan had almost the same experience when she married her husband Jean-Pierre on 14 February 2014. “I remember the day like it was yesterday,” Lizanne said. “The day was so hot and the florist kept changing the flowers at the church and venue so they would last.”

They got married in the late afternoon at Monte Vista. They were a couple for 10 years before they decided to get hitched. “Not everyone can say they married their best friend, but indeed we did.”

“I met my husband through my mother-in- law. Can you believe that?”

She said everyday is a learning curve and they still learn new things about each other every day. The couple has a 6-year-old son, and a baby boy that just turned 9 months.

Chris and Cathy Smith have been married for 30 years and Chris said it feels like it has only been a single moment. “It feels like yesterday that we got married and yet it has been a lifetime,” he said. “Thank you, my dear Cathy, for staying with me through everything.”

Other people, like Marinda Hattingh, also have good experiences when thinking about 14 February as it is both her birthday and her wedding anniversary.

Alta and Chris du Preez just missed Valentine’s Day and got hitched on 17 February, 33 years ago.

The News would like to congratulate all couples who are celebrating their wedding anniversaries during the month of love.

We would also like to thank all who participated in the Facebook poll and hope we will hear from you again soon.
