More than 100 elderly people were spoiled on Valentine’s Day. They have a lot of love to give, but unfortunately some of them do not have any family.

Natalie Franklin, UniCollege West Rand marketing manager, told the News that the College wants to do as much as possible in the community. She said its learners believe it is their social responsibility to share love and joy with the elderly. They were asked to bring one slab of chocolate to be handed out at the Spade Reën Old Age Home in Krugersdorp West on Valentine’s Day. It was the first time they visited the home. They plan to visit the residents more often in the future.

“The response we got was overwhelming and everybody is so full of love,” said Natalie.
One resident told the News that her only daughter and two grandchildren live in Texas. She only gets to see them once every few years. She does not have any family in South Africa and her health would not allow her to travel. She had tears in her eyes when she told the News that she felt so blessed to have seen new faces.

The elderly people showed their appreciation by singing to the College representatives. They told them they could not wait to get another visit from them.
