CPF shows its soft side

The CPF Sector 3 made sure that roughly 100 people living on the streets of Krugersdorp went to sleep with a full tummy and a blanket over their shoulders.

On Friday, 9 June, roughly 50 members of the Sector 3 Krugersdorp Community Police Forum (CPF) opened their hearts to those in need when they patrolled the streets.

This is the second consecutive year this sector has taken the initiative to collect and distribute as many blankets as possible, along with a warm cup of soup and some bread and vetkoek.

“We were able to collect about 100 blankets as well as a few beanies, gloves and scarves, with the generosity of the public. We, as Sector 3, also agreed to donate one blanket for every five blankets donated.” Piet Sparks, chairperson of the CPF Sector 3 said.

However, this year is different from last year, according to Piet. During the previous year they donated to both people living on the streets as well as old age homes in need. This year their sole focus was the people on the streets.

“There are so many people on the streets that are cold this winter, and we realised that they have a bigger need for these things,” he said.

“Most of these people view the CPF as their enemy, maybe assuming that we want to chase them away. But we want to show them that we also have a good side, we have a good heart,” he said.

The left-over blankets were sent to the victims of the runaway fires in the Western Cape.

Piet also mentioned that other sectors, such as Sector 5 also gave back to the community recently.
