Police officers show off their playful side to combat crime

"This was a way to discourage members of the community from buying stolen goods and motivate them to be the eyes and ears of the police instead."

Police officers from the West Rand Cluster police stations recently held a sports day at Hoërskool Jan de Klerk in an effort to bring the community closer together and fight crime.

“This was also a way of discouraging members of the community to buy stolen goods and motivating them to be the eyes and ears of the police,” said Constable Lucky Matome, the spokesperson for the Tarlton Police Station.

The games were arranged by the West Rand Cluster and hosted by the Tarlton Police.

Major General Anna Mateisi, cluster commander for the West Rand, believes the good partnership between the police and the community will help eradicate crime within the cluster.

A number of netball and soccer games were held between the police teams and other teams such as those from the Department of Education, and the players enjoyed themselves in the warm afternoon sun.
