Lodge inspired by youth to host charity fun day
Sadly, one of the beneficiaries passed away after the event.
Riverstone Lodge, in conjunction with a number of local churches, hosted a celebration for Youth Day with Gospel music and activities, while at the same time raising money for the youth-orientated charities.

The event was held on 16 June and the lodge carefully selected two charities as beneficiaries. Ruby Ballack, a 15-year-old girl who suffered from pulmonary hypertension and restrictive cardiomyopahty and LaGae Le Nete, a home for young men, were chosen because of the lodge’s lengthy relationship with both. The day was a great success and with every painted face, laughing child and glorious song, the lodge owners’ smiles grew larger.
They had live bands, a fun playground and jumping castle, and many more activities around the river.

Last year, they hosted Ruby Ballack’s 15th birthday party and have since developed a special relationship with her and the family. LaGae is a re-integration centre in Muldersdrift that works predominantly with young men. The Youth Day was beautiful and Ruby and all the folks from LaGae really seemed to enjoy themselves.
Sadly, Ruby passed away after the event in one of the lodge’s rooms. After her funeral on Saturday, 24 June, refreshments was served at the lodge.

“All the staff and management at Riverstone extend their deepest condolences to all of Ruby’s family,” said Gilbert Hickman, director of Riverstone Lodge.
May she rest in peace and may God strengthen the family in the coming days and weeks.
