[FOLLOW UP] Local police conquer cycling champs
“A bad day on the bicycle beats a good day in the office."
Peter Phala walked away from the Police National Road Cycling Championships with the title of number one police cyclist in Gauteng, after finishing the five sections of the championships on Thursday, 22 June.
He also finished second in the country, behind Donovan O’Reily from the Eastern Cape who won the overall gold medal.

Policemen and -women from all nine provinces took part in the challenge, and a 10th, from head office, also joined them. Head office had one champion, Vusi Marenene, who won second place in Gauteng.
Lieutenant Colonel Matt Viney, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Henning and Captain Paula Terblanche from the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit represented Krugersdorp at the championships.

“A bad day on the bicycle beats a good day in the office,” said Leon Kruger, deputy station commander of the West Rand Police.
“[We were proud to be able] to host the national championships and know that our organisers didn’t disappoint the province. We have a great team who put in long hours on the road. These members were chosen for the Gauteng team because of their hard work and dedication.”
