Early Mandela Day sharing for Munsieville

Mandela Day is around the corner and in honour of his legacy; the Do More Foundation is planning to provide nearly 7 000 nutritious meals to vulnerable children and adults across the country, including those of Munsieville.
With approximately 700 volunteers pitching up to prepare and deliver a cooked lunch to organisations across South Africa, it’s a great way for ordinary people to do more for those in need.
Founded by RCL FOODS – one of South Africa’s food producers – the Do More Foundation was recently established to do more for the most vulnerable members of society by collaborating with like-minded organisations to ease hunger, support early childhood development and care for animals.
“The heroes in this model are the recipients themselves, as well as the ordinary people who give of their time, energy and resources to make a difference. That’s why Mandela Day is such an appropriate event for the Foundation. It’s collaborative and it’s all about people putting people first in true Madiba spirit,” Foundation executive and trustee, Warren Farrer said.
Between 28 June and 18 July, over 660 employees from 27 RCL FOODS sites will be preparing hot meals for 31 organisations across the country – ranging from crèches and schools to facilities for those with disabilities, orphanages, old age homes and community centres.
The regions feeding the largest number of organisations will be Gauteng and Mpumalanga, with nine each. All meals will include pap and chicken, with some larger sites also preparing chakalaka and coleslaw.
The first event kicked off on Wednesday, 28 June when 22 volunteers from Roodepoort cooked 1 200 meals for learners from Fleurhof Primary School.
During the school holidays the campaign will feed the provinces of Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo.
However, the biggest challenge will come on Mandela Day itself when 3 984 meals will be provided across six provinces
“With the buy-in from our corporate partners and the support of ordinary people with big hearts, we are going to make Mandela Day count for even more this year. Together we really can do more,” Farrer concluded.
On Tuesday, 4 July this organisation will be paying a visit to Munsieville Care for the Aged from 8am to 12 noon.
