More than 100 bikers ride against farm murders

Even though all eyes were on the beautiful machines, none who attended forgot why they were really there.

The Delphiniums and Megaforce Motorcycle Clubs (MC) held a massive get-together to raise awareness of the devastation that farm murders leave in South Africa.

More than 100 bikers gathered at Sasol Pinehaven early on Sunday morning, 25 June, and every person who passed the station broke into an ear-to-ear smile as they saw the beautiful bikes and even some of their favourite luxury cars. The Red Heart Riders MC had the most members bringing their motorcycles to town.

From Kawazakis Ninja 1 000cc bikes to old-school 1984 Suzuki GS 850ccs, every single person who attended showed their own unique style on their rides. The event was even attended by drivers in Lamborghinis and Mercedes-Benz AMGs.

Even though all eyes were on the beautiful machines, none who attended forgot why they were really there.

Many of the bikers had anti-farm murder placards taped to their screens. Others had pendants stuck to their black leather jackets. Each and every biker received a small bag containing sunflower and corn seeds and nuts, representing the food that farmers produce, as part of the awareness campaign.

Bikers clad in biker gear also gave bags of seeds to motorists at the Pinehaven/ N14 intersection.

Nelie Hendriks, first lady of the Delphiniums MC said the anti-farm murder campaign is very close to her heart because of what happened to her uncle, Willie Pretorius. He was viciously murdered during a farm attack in 2009. He was stabbed multiple times and clubbed on the head with a full whiskey bottle and a gun-butt in his farm-house.

Arno, Pretorius’ son, said he knew his dad tried to fight back because of all the blood spattered on the walls.

He was mutilated so badly that after the court case, the presiding judge said he couldn’t make out whether or not it was his face or an eye in the evidence photos.

Numerous other motorcyclists also told the News how their families had been assaulted, robbed and murdered by farm murderers.

“I don’t think people realise that if this continues and if our farmers either die out or stop farming, we will have no food,” said Nelie.

Delphiniums MC wants to thank every single person who attended, especially Deon Wright and Henriette Hendriks who organised the event, the CPF for blocking off roads, and all their generous sponsors.
