Over 400 fed for early Mandela Day treat

On this day the Care for the Aged centre was one of 31 charity organisations benefiting from this initiative.

Munsieville’s Care for the Aged Centre was thrilled to celebrate an early Madiba Day when they were able to provide over 400 meals to those in need with the help of RCL Food’s Do More Foundation.

This foundation was recently established to do more for the most vulnerable members of society by collaborating with like-minded organisations to ease hunger, support early childhood development and care for animals.

On Tuesday, 4 July, the Care for the Aged centre became one of 31 charity organisations benefiting from this initiative. A total of 700 volunteers from 27 RCL Food sites are working together to provide over 7 000 meals across South Africa between 28 June and 18 July.

The centre saw approximately 400 smiles when they served pap, chicken and salad for lunch.

“I’m really so proud to be able to support so many communities as we’re all about doing more and this is just another way we’re able to do just that,” Sam Coom, Corporate Brand and Digital Specialist said.

As the Care for the Aged Centre is a centre for the elderly who attend daily ‘aging activities’ such as singing in a choir, gym classes and knitting, among other things, they also received a nutritious breakfast from the foundation.

“We are very grateful for the foundation’s visit and we are most definitely looking forward to the next Mandela Day with them,” James Louw, Project Manager of the centre concluded.
