13 police stations unite to give hope to senior citizens
"We have two hands, one is to help ourselves, and the other is to help others."
Policemen and -women from the West Rand Cluster recently gave one of the oldest women in Krugersdorp some hope, warmth and food for the winter months to come.
In the spirit of late President Nelson Mandela’s legacy, the 13 police stations in the cluster gave Zenzele Ndebele, a 109-year-old resident of Kagiso, a beautiful blanket, and some cooking oil, rice and a big box of cookies.

But she was not the only elderly woman who was spoilt on this special day. More than 250 other senior citizens received the same gifts at a ceremony held at Centenary Hall as part of the Cluster’s poverty relief project.
What made the day even more special was the relationship between the Chinese Embassy and other Chinese organisations in South Africa, who sponsored various items to ensure that these elderly citizens each received a food parcel and a blanket. In true Mandela spirit, the companies worked together to give.

Mr Qu, a member of the Chinese delegation, indicated that the Chinese community is proud to assist the elders of South Africa.
“In Chinese culture, the appreciation of the elderly acknowledges their wisdom and encourages respect. That is what we want to showcase today,” said Mr Qu.
Councillor Boyce Maneli, Executive Mayor of the West Rand and Councillor Patrick Lipudi, Mayor of Mogale City also graced the event with their presence.
In both their speeches, the mayors emphasised the importance of working together to create a better future for the nation.
Major General Anna Mateisi, cluster commander for the West Rand Police expressed her appreciation towards the Chinese Embassy and all the other sponsors.

“Your partnership in this event was paramount. Without your inputs and donations none of this would have been possible. The West Rand Police are proud to pay tribute to Mandela in this fashion. We have two hands – one is to help ourselves, and the other is to help others,” said Mateisi.
