Ward councillor washes clothes for informal settlement residents
"We are here to be of service to our communities and we are truly blessed to have such dedicated people uniting and serving our area."
Mandela Day in Kromdraai kicked off with a clothing drive for the less fortunate and continued into the next day, when numerous other activities commenced.

“Raymond Seiso kicked off the day by rounding up about 60 community members,” said Zillah Wehinger-Maguire, councillor for Ward 39. “We then deployed everyone to various areas in the Kromdraai informal settlement. They helped the senior citizens with tasks they are unable to do themselves, repaired fences wherever they were broken, cleaned stands, fixed wardrobes, doors and cupboards, and even helped some by washing heaps of clothes.”
After all the chores were completed, the residents were treated to a delicious meal at the shelter and more clothing was handed out to the elderly.
“Mandela Day should never be limited to 67 minutes or just one day. We are here to be of service to our communities and we are truly blessed to have such dedicated people uniting and serving our area,” said Zillah.
With the help of various stakeholders in the area, the day’s activities continued without so much as one glitch.

A huge thank you goes to Raymond, the Kromdraai Clinic staff, the Bokamoso and Evangeli Encha organisations, Connie Maruping from Social Development and Zillah, for making the day such a caring success.
