Senior informal settlers receive heart-warming donations
During this event 30 elderly people made their way to the Helena Wales Hall where Honeyfield Charity distributed a wide variety of basic necessities to each person.
On Mandela Day, a group of elderly men and women from a small informal settlement near the Waterval plots in Tarlton gathered to receive some essential products from a local charity.
During this event, approximately 30 elderly people made their way to the camp’s pride – the Helena Wales Hall –where Honeyfield Charity distributed a wide variety of basic necessities to each person.

Each senior citizen received a packet of salt, maize meal, soya, biscuits, concentrated fruit cordial, toilet paper, clothes and a blanket.
This charity not only donated these necessities to the less privileged members of society, but they also went the extra mile and gave the inside of the hall a brand new coat of paint and washed the floors.
However, the giving did not stop there. According to Ann Bezuidenhout, founder of the charity, their next aim is to revamp the entire hall in order to restore it to its full potential.

“We are still in the process of looking for sponsors to help us with the pelmets, ceiling, polish, tables, chairs and curtains. This is their pride, and they deserve to gather in a hall they can be proud of,” Ann explained.
On this day, each senior citizen left the hall with a smile, a warm heart and a promise for a better future, after DA Councillor for Ward 26, Whitey Moleba, also paid a visit.

“We are so happy that we were able to help so many people. It’s a beautiful sight to see them happy. We are also looking forward to helping even more people on every Mandela Day to come,” said Ann.
