CPR Week to clarify how the procedure saves lives

CPR procedures are vitally important in cases of emergencies, such as drowning, and when one has a heart attack.

National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Week, commonly known as CPR Week, falls between 4 and 10 November, and will focus on the significance of this emergency procedure in preserving intact brain function.

According to local sources, CPR is vital to the restoration of breathing and blood circulation when a person goes into cardiac arrest.

Perhaps you have never found yourself in a situation where you have been required to give CPR to someone, however, you may need to do it when you least expect it, in a matter of life or death.

Saturday, 11 November will be National CPR Day under the theme ‘Train the hero’. The Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa is inviting all members of the public to attend the course they will host. The ‘CPR for everyone’ lesson will teach CPR techniques and how to deal with incidents of choking in all ages.

This course is especially recommended for people with careers in teaching (pre-school included), health care, swimming, security, fire-fighting, the corporate and retail industries, and the hospitality industry. The course is also ideal for parents and care-givers.

To take part in the course, learn additional information on how to spot someone undergoing a stroke or a heart attack, and in hopes of attaining a Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa certificate to prove your CPR competence, call 011 478 3989 to make a booking for the training session, which will take place at the Berario Recreation Centre in Randburg.
