It’s a Christmas miracle

During the opening ceremony Reverend Jannie spoke a few words, whereafter the parents and children pledged to look after their new park.

Approximately one month ago, many might have said it was impossible, but they should have known that wherever Reverend Jannie Pelser from Rant-en-Dal Prisma and his dedicated team are involved, anything is possible.

For quite some time he has had the need to upgrade and restore a desolate park in Appelpark. Within only one month, his vision became a reality. With the help of FutureWindow – a non-profit organisation – and a few sponsors, Jannie was able to launch this all-new play area, now known as Rainbow Park, on Friday, 8 December.

“We wanted to spoil the children for Christmas, with only the best. Our aim was to erect something that would last, because they are worth it,” he said.

“Nobody deserves misery, children least of all. Kids need open spaces where they can play and relax, where they can forget momentarily the desolation and anxiety they might be experiencing on a daily basis – a safe place where they can be free to be kids again,” he said.

On this day, the children had their first taste of exactly what Jannie wanted to achieve when they were welcomed to a brand-new playground that includes a wide variety of exciting jungle gyms and frames. During the opening ceremony, Reverend Jannie spoke a few words, whereafter the parents and children pledged to look after their new park.

With much laughter and playful spirits, the children had the opportunity to explore each swing, tyre and pole to the sound of lovely live music filling the air – with Reverend Jannie in full voice too.

DA ward councillor Trudie Naudé and Estelle Opperman from Mug and Tree Community Centre – who is involved in this project as well – were also present when they handed out some delicious cold drinks and treats to the children and other community members.

“We would like to thank each sponsor as well as everybody on the committee, especially Reverend Jannie for making this idea a reality,” Trudie said.
