Dadoo and Leratong doctors not paid overtime
Aggrieved doctors are now threatening to stop working.
Many doctors at Gauteng state hospitals have not been paid for the overtime they have worked, and now they have been told that the Gauteng Health Department (GHD) does not have the money to pay them.
“I have received reports that overtime has not been paid to doctors at the Tembisa, Leratong and Dr Yusuf Dadoo hospitals and probably other hospitals as well,” said Jack Bloom, DA Gauteng Shadow Health MEC in a media statement.
He said some doctors at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital have also been short-paid this month, but were told that it was an administrative issue that would be sorted out.

“But Boy Ngobeni, the Head of the Gauteng Department of e-Government, confirms in a letter that the GHD has given instructions not to pay overtime to medical professionals. This comes on top of a freeze on new medical appointments that is hindering the ability of hospitals to provide quality health care.”
Aggrieved doctors are now threatening to stop working at night, during weekends and on public holidays.
“The Department needs to explain urgently why doctors are being short-paid and rectify this is as soon as possible.”
