EFF protesters march to Dadoo after negligence claims

Their mission was loud and clear: #QualityHealthcare for all.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have vowed that 2018 will be the year of #QualityHealthcare for all and the West Rand branch took that to heart when they marched to the Dr Ysuf Dadoo Hospital this morning, 23 April.

The members gathered at an open space opposite the Krugersdorp Traffic Department to march to the hospital. Their mission: to deliver a memorandum to the hospital and local authorities in an effort to combat poor medical service from the hospital.

Itani Mukwevho, regional secretary of the EFF’s West Rand Branch, led the march.

“We are here to put the grievances of our community about the service at the hospital forward,” said Mukwevho. “We are going to be the voice of the voiceless.”

The protest comes nearly two weeks after a mother reported that she had to give birth to her dead baby on her own. The EFF said this is one of the reasons they decided to protest.

“As the EFF, we are going to make sure the investigations are intensified and we get to the bottom of this case. No one is happy with their service and some are still crying over the loss.”

The memorandum is also said to have contained a grievance against the pharmacy, which only stays open until 4pm. “We want the pharmacy to be open 24 hours so that the poor community can also reach it.”

Krugersdorp Traffic Department officials and the police escorted the protesters to ensure the safety of all parties affected.
