[UPDATE] President Square robbery – police speak out
Everyone was taken to the back of the shop where the suspects took merchandise.
The Krugersdorp Police released a statement about the attempted robbery at the Cell C shop at President Square yesterday, 7 May.
Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the West Rand Cluster Police said a 42-year-old woman and her co-workers were in the shop at about 11.45am when four unknown males entered and pretended to be customers.
Two of the men pulled out pistols and pointed them at the victims.

“Everyone was taken to the back of the shop where the suspects took merchandise. They then left the shop with the items. The victims triggered the alarm and the mall security closed the main gates to the shopping centre,” said Ernst.
The suspects got into two vehicles – one of which was a Toyota Etios which drove out of the premises before the gate was closed. The second vehicle, a white Suzuki, was unable to exit and the police and security officers managed to arrest three suspects.
They also recovered some of the stolen goods. A 9mm firearm with ammunition were recovered. The vehicle was also confiscated.
The three suspects, aged 32, 34 and 36 respectively were detained at Krugersdorp Police Station.
