Man shot and killed in Lanseria
The victim's wife had passed away a few days earlier, and he had withdrawn money to pay for her funeral.
Police have confirmed that a man in his 60s was shot and killed in a robbery in Lanseria on Monday, 7 May.
It’s believed the man had withdrawn money from an ATM and gone home.

Major General Theko Pharasi, cluster commander of Hillbrow Police, released a statement saying, “The man was driving from a bank in Fourways and when he arrived at the gate of the plot, he was blocked from behind by a silver-grey Toyota Corolla. Three unknown armed men climbed out of the Corolla and approached his vehicle. They then opened its door and shot at him. He died on the scene after sustaining two bullet wounds to his upper body.”
“The suspects then searched the deceased’s vehicle before fleeing in their own vehicle. It is not yet known what valuables were in the deceased’s vehicle.”
Drift Reaction, a local security company which serves the area, reported that the incident happened at about midday and a resident of the area had sent an urgent distress call to them.
“He was hysterical and asked for help as his father had just been gunned down in front of their gate,” said Jacques Treptow, owner of Drift Reaction.

“On arrival they found the victim who had already passed away. He was on his way back from Fourways Absa where he withdrew R15 000 cash to pay for the funeral of his wife, who passed away on Friday, 4 May.”
The child of the two deceased parents contacted Treptow the following day to thank Drift Reaction for their assistance even though they were not clients of the security company.
