Man gets 20 years for stealing people’s belongings

"Our detective team is lauded for its dedication, and for finally putting the perpetrator where he belongs"

The Hekpoort Police precinct experienced a number of burglaries between 2010 and 2016.

A 24-year-old man, Clever Elias Maluleke from Pretoria, was arrested at Hartbeespoort Dam during that time. He appeared in court a few times for burglary and theft incidents which had occurred in that area.

The Hekpoort detective team investigated the cases and was able to link him to five burglaries and thefts, as well as a robbery with aggravating circumstances, all of which occurred in the Hekpoort area.

Maluleke was found guilty on all six charges, and was sentenced to a total of 20 years’ imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to posses a firearm.

The Hekpoort station commander, Captain MT Zwane, was satisfied with the outcome of this trial, and welcomed the sentence.

“Our detective team is lauded for its dedication, and for finally putting the perpetrator where he belongs,” said Zwane.
