Protesters arrested for looting shops
The two suspects were among a group that broke into the complainant’s shop to steal groceries.
Kagiso Police arrested two Madala hostel residents aged 26 and 46 on Tuesday, 15 May for business burglary.
On Monday, 14 May, at about 11.15pm, a man received a phonecall from a friend informing him that hostel residents were protesting and attacking some spaza shops in the area of Sinqobile. He then decided to drive to Sinqobile since he had a spaza shop in the area.
When he reached his shop, he saw a group of people exiting it, with groceries in their possession. He decided to call police, who responded swiftly. Upon arrival at the scene, the police managed to apprehend two suspects.

The two suspects were among the group that broke into the man’s shop to steal groceries. They broke the shop’s roller-door in order to gain entry. The suspects were put under arrest and later detained at the Kagiso Police Station.
A case docket of business burglary has been opened against the suspects and they are expected to appear briefly in court soon.
