Man gets 19 years for raping 12-year-old

He grabbed her while she was on her way to church.

The Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Krugersdorp is proud to announce that another one of their cases has been concluded successfully, which means that a rapist has been put behind bars.

The case was opened in December 2015 and after the suspect had appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court multiple times, it was heard that the accused had raped a 12-year-old victim.

He had grabbed the victim while she was on her way to church. He dragged her into the bushes and threatened to kill her if she screamed. He then raped her. She was also threatened that she would be hit with a brick if she kept on crying.

Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Segotta, the FCS commander commended the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Marie Strooh on the successful conclusion of this case.

“Crimes against women and children that are concluded successfully ensures that the victims are heard. Strooh went the extra mile to secure this outcome. Our colleagues at the National Prosecuting Authority and Justice Department are applauded for the manner in which this case was concluded,” said Segotta.
